My media habits are influenced by my parents, teachers, and peers. My parents influence my media habits because during dinner at home they like to talk about current issues of the day and what have been going on. Through their dinner table discussions about the day’s events and through their readings of the daily newspaper and news watching I get their feedback. My peers influence me with popular news with celebrities and sports. Every morning when I wake up I get online and look to see what the weather is going to be like. When I look at the weather I also look at the yahoo featured news for the day. I don’t always read them but I like to read the headlines. If the headlines interest me then I read. I don’t like to read much about the political media news. It doesn’t interest me, although it should. By reading more political news it would enhance my knowledge on why things are occurring the way they are. By not getting involved in the political news is my worst aspect of my media habits. My best media habit is that I try and look at the daily news everyday and at least read the headlines to have a basic understanding what is going on within or local news or world news. Specifically I can take several more minutes out of my day to further read all important news topics that are occurring. I can also bring up in conversation more important topics of the day with my peers and parents and have intelligent conversations with them.

I completely agree with you that families across the United States use dinner time to hold discussions about current day happenings. For instance, growing up in high school, I was not captivated by the media, hence I knew little of current affairs. Specifically, one night I had accompanied my friend's family to dinner, and the dinner time talk was solely based around current news. Needless to say, I felt very uncomfortable because I had nothing to contribute to the dinner time discussion. Therefore, I too wish I could take more time out of my day to read more in depth about the news, rather than the headlines.
I think it's interesting that you have time in the mornings after checking out the weather to glance at news stories that grasp your attention. I simply don't wake up early enough to accomplish that task but I have been known to read certain articles simply because their headlines catch my eye. One thing you could do to improve your media habits is throw a little bit of entertainment into the mix every now and then just to sort of add a lighter side to your news consumption.
I definitely agree with your idea to watch the daily new everyday. It's pretty important to know what's going on in the rest of the world even though sometimes it's hard being college students and all. Although sometimes I don't have time, or I'm too tired, I try to keep up with events as much as possible.
My media habits are a lot like yours. They are influenced by my parents because they like to discuss current events at the dinner table, and because of them I watch the news that they always had on while i was growing up, CNN. Also i always check the weather in the morning too but i don't really read the headlines. My friends keep me posted as well so I geuss we have a lot of similarites in media habits but I think you should really pay a little more attention to politics, especially in such an important time of the year with the elections and all.
I do the same thing in the mornings as you do. I like to check the weather and in doing so my web browser and homepage will inform me of events happening that day, night, week, etc. If it interests me I click on to read more.
Kyle, i agree with everything that you have to say. I also watched the evening news around the dinner table every night while also watching my mother prepare dinner. We would also discuss everything that happened during the day, which sometimes included "big news stories". I still try to watch the daily news a lot, but for me it isnt around dinner time anymore, it is the late night news because of our busy schedules. I also wish that I read more of the newspaper, and not just the headlines, more in depth.
